This forum is to showcase the opportunities in Scotland to produce green hydrogen for a zero-carbon future, and the related opportunities for German companies. The recognition that green or blue hydrogen is a key element in achieving the energy transition within the parameters set forth in the Paris accord has driven an increase of attention to this ‘green’ gas. While competitive price per kilo and availability at industrial scale of this “new” resource seem to be caught in a chicken-and-egg loop, it is due to the nascent industrial interest and demand that drives a growing number of projects aimed to satisfy this need at the required scale. There is also agreement on the need for import of about 50% of the green hydrogen to Germany. Already some companies have begun to develop projects in Scotland to take advantage of the 300 GW of offshore wind potential estimated to be available in Scottish waters. These resources are of particular interest because of their vicinity to the European market and because of their significant volumes. They bear new opportunities, for new ventures, projects and cooperation.
