Climate protection and the Energiewende (Energy Turnaround) are taking place on many different levels in NRW. This excursion will present various projects in Leverkusen, Hilden and Wuppertal. Naturgut Ophoven with its children's and young people's museum EnergyCity teaches climate protection with reference to many practical examples; the Schüren bakery employs electromobility, solar power and waste heat utilisation in its operations and the VillaMedia in the Arrenberg Climate Quater produces more energy than it consumes. From here a whole district of the city of Wuppertal is currently being converted into an energy-self-sufficient climate quater. The excursion will end with a ride on the world-famous Wuppertal Suspension Railway.

Each excursion will also be accompanied by two interpreters and a simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided.
For each excursion provision will be made to cater for the participants. In addition the participants will be given a small food package (beverage/fruit etc.) on the bus. The catering will depend on the respective tour itinerary.
A photographer will document the excursion – on the following day in each case you will be able to download the photos of your excursion at www.energieagentur.nrw and use them free of charge in your press and public relations.
Bonn – Leverkusen – Hilden – Wuppertal
Every excursion starts and ends in Bonn. The starting point and destination is the FlixBus stop "Bonn Museumsmeile". This is located at Joseph-Beuys-Allee between intersections with Marie-Kahle-Allee and Emil-Nolde-Straße. To get to the bus station, take citytram lines 16, 18, 63, 66 or 68. Get off at "Heussallee/Museumsmeile", then walk via "Genscherallee" to Joseph-Beuys-Allee.
The EnergyAgency.NRW is organising the tours on behalf of the Federal Environment Ministry and the NRW state government. Its energy advisors and staff of KlimaExpo.NRW will accompany the trips as part of a four-person team of experts to give specialist support.
Stations of the tour
Bäckerei Schüren, Hilden
combines photovoltaic systems, electromobility, ovens fueled by biomass and a fleet of electric vehicles. It received the ECOCARE Award 2012, the German Solar Award 2015; the Environment award of the city of Langenfeld, and many others.
VillaMedia in the Arrenberg Climate Quater, Wuppertal
The VillaMedia generates its own energy. With seven photovoltaic systems of its own, the combined heat and power (CHP) unit and an innovative fuel cell, this event venue produces more energy than it consumes itself. See also the project here as part of the KlimaExpo.NRW.
Ride on the Wuppertal Suspension Railway
Wuppertal's world-renowned emblem and, to a certain extent, the principal artery of the public transport system – the suspension railway ("Schwebebahn"). For more than 100 years this world-renowned feature has rumbled and rattled through Wuppertal – high above the river Wupper and the town's streets. It floats from the district of Vohwinkel to Wuppertal-Elberfeld. The visit will then end at the famous Von-der-Heydt Art Gallery.
Registration is no longer possible because the deadline has expired.
